About Thanda Safari

THANDA SAFARI

Thanda Safari is a protected Nature Reserve, having been proclaimed in October 2015, and is approximately 14 000 hectares in size. It is located in northern KwaZulu Natal where legendary King Shaka once roamed and was once the royal hunting grounds. In 1895, the Mdletshe Game Reserve where Thanda Safari is situated was proclaimed as the first protected reserve in Africa, although was deproclaimed in 1907 due to a lack of water.  Thanda Safari is 32 degrees south of the equator and uses South African Standard Time (SAST), which is two hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). It is surrounded by a number of other game reserves in the region, and is just north of the world-famous Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve
